Adjusting To A New Life

Ne y zaabre or good afternoon in Moore the language spoken by my host family and the majority of people in this region of Burkina Faso.

First off a quick apology for not replying to any emails and a big thanks for everyone that has contacted me. Its great to here from you but I feel like I have very little time in the city and even shorter time to get on the internet plus its slow and I have to use a keyboard where all the letters are in different places so its a lot of hunt and pecking. I feel like its easier to post blogs than individual replies even though its much less personal but I can reach many more. Please understand and I hope to get more time in the future. I will be spending the weekend in Ouahigouya so hope to pull out my laptop and type up a longer blog and find time to post it next week.

After a week of village life I have returned to the city for the evening and am leaving early tomorrow morning to visit a current PCV that lives near Ouagadougou. Two other stagieres, or trainees as we are called in French, and I along with a language and cultural facilitator will travel via public bus, city taxi, and bush taxi to reach the bigger town near her and then will bike 5 kilometers to her town for three days.

My French is slowly improving but not as fast as I would like of course. I am used to being at the top of my classes and its a humbling experience to really struggle with communication as many of my fellow trainees are able to communicate fairly well. It will come though along with some Moore and maybe another local language.

Okay hope to write more later and please keep in touch! I received my first letter last week from Kim and Jim and my first package this week from Beth. Thank you so much!!!
